Trooper Delano G. Powell Memorial Highway

(Campbellsburg, Kentucky) - The Kentucky State Police Commissioner Patrick Simpson and the family of Trooper Delano G. Powell unveiled a sign dedicating US-42 starting at the Jefferson County line running to the Trimble County line as "Trooper Delano G. Powell Memorial Highway".

Trooper Powell was shot and killed while serving a warrant in Breathitt County on July 08, 1965. Trooper Powell was a State Trooper for 18 months and was assigned the Post-13 in Hazard. Trooper Powell was a native of Henry County.

This roadway was named as a result of passage of Senate Bill 18 by the 2002 Kentucky General Assembly and was signed into law on March 20, 2002, by Governor Paul E. Patton. Senators David Karem and Paul Herron were instrumental in passage of this bill honoring all Kentucky State Police officers killed in the line of duty.

The dedication ceremony will take place in Henry County on July 01, 2003 at 10:00am next to the Bedford Loan and Deposit Bank on US-42 in Sligo, Kentucky.
