Lexington Company Wins Motorcycle In Kentucky State Police Trooper Island Raffle
Date of News Release: 9/8//2004
(FRANKFORT, Ky.) - On August 29th, the last day of the Kentucky State Fair, the winning ticket in the Kentucky State Police Trooper Island raffle was drawn from more than 10,400 entries. The winner of a 2004 Harley-Davidson Road King® motor-cycle was ADESA Auctions of Lexington, Ky.
The company is a branch of Auto Dealers Exchange Services of America, which is based in Indianapolis, Ind. According to Ed Sanslow, the company's Lexington manager, the motorcycle will be donated to the organization's parent company for use in a nationwide charity raffle to benefit youth programs in the automotive industry.
Each year, the Kentucky State Police conduct a raffle to help support their Trooper Island summer camp for disadvantaged children. The free summer camp hosts disadvantaged boys and girls 10 to12 years of age. Every summer, approximately 800 children from across Kentucky attend the camp and participate in athletics, citizenship, canoeing, water safety, archery, crafts, fishing, swimming, environmental awareness and other camp activities. Special camp sessions are held for Hispanic children, the visually and hearing impaired and those with medical risks.
"This year, the raffle generated almost $80,000 for the camp," reported Capt. Brad Bates, commander of the KSP Community Relations Branch. "We appreciate the support of everyone who participated in this worthwhile fund-raising effort. We also thank the many industries, civic and business groups across the state who have provided Trooper Island with much needed resources over the years."
The Kentucky State Police established Trooper Island in 1965 at Dale Hollow Lake near the Cumberland and Clinton county line as part of a long-range program of public service to the youth of Kentucky. The camp is run by volunteers and is funded by tax-deductible contributions. This raffle was conducted via Charitable Gaming License #0000633.
