Additional Arrest And Property Recovery Announced In Theft Ring Case

(FRANKFORT, Ky.) - An investigation into a major theft ring, originally announced on April 11, 2005, has resulted in the recovery of approximately $15,000 in additional property and the arrest of a fourth suspect.
The property, which was recovered in Morgan and Rowan counties, included a farm tractor, two trailers and a variety of high value hand tools such as drills and saws. A Bob Cat skid steer loader, which was recovered by the Morgan County Sheriff's Dept., has also been linked to this investigation.
Barry Atkins, 50, of Morehead, surrendered to authorities on Monday, May 2 and was arrested on several warrants relating to the thefts and possession of stolen property. He was lodged in the Rowan County jail.
The investigation, which is a partnership between the Kentucky State Police Vehicle Investigations Section, the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government Division of Police, the Clark County Sheriff's Dept. and Kentucky State Police posts in Dry Ridge and Morehead, previously recovered nearly $1 million dollars in stolen equipment. The investigation is continuing.
