Ten Die On Kentucky Roadways Last Week
(June 6 through June 12)
Date of Release: 06/13/05
(FRANKFORT, Ky.) - Preliminary statistics* indicate that 10 people died in 10 separate crashes on Kentucky's roadways from Monday, June 6 through Sunday, June 12.
Of the 10 fatal crashes, preliminary data* indicates alcohol was a suspected factor in five of the crashes and five of the victims were not wearing seat belts. The seat belt status of one of the fatalities is unknown at this time. Two of the fatalities were pedestrians.
Single fatality crashes occurred in Ballard, Butler, Carroll, Grayson, Jefferson, Letcher, Madison, Monroe, Oldham and Warren counties.
Through June 12, 2005, a total of 370* people have lost their lives on Kentucky roadways. This is 13 less than reported for this time period in 2004. Two hundred and thirteen of these 370 fatalities were not wearing seat belts.
Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.
*These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
