Date of News Release: 09/20/2011
(FRANKFORT, Ky.)--- On Sept. 16, 2011, the Kentucky State Police Electronic Crime Branch arrested Mark Steven Schlasinger, 34, of Fort Thomas, Ky. as the result of an ongoing undercover Internet Crimes Against Children investigation.
Schlasinger is a registered sex offender from a 2002 case in Campbell County, in which he was convicted of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree. The Electronic Crime Branch received multiple complaints from individuals who advised that Schlasinger was using a social networking site, which is prohibited by law. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that Schlasinger did have an account with facebook.com. It was also discovered that he had an email address that was not registered with the Kentucky Sex Offender Registry.
A search warrant was executed at his residence with the assistance of the Fort Thomas Police Dept. Computer related equipment was seized and Schlasinger was charged with Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Registration (First Offense), a Class D felony; as well as Sex Offender IM/Chat/Social Network Use, a Class A misdemeanor. Additional charges are pending.
Schlasinger was lodged in the Campbell Co. Detention Center. The investigation is continuing by the Kentucky State Police Electronic Crime Branch.
