Large Cargo Theft Located and Recovered
(FRANKFORT, Ky.) – The Kentucky State Police Vehicle Investigations Branch received information from the FBI on Oct. 25th in regard to a large scale cargo theft that had occurred in Gary, Ind.
The information led investigators to the Louisville, Ky. area. KSP Vehicle Investigations, Louisville Metro Police Dept. (LMPD) and agents from the FBI and National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) conducted surveillance and located the stolen property in Louisville. A 2014 Great Dane trailer loaded with more than $12 million worth of LG smart phones was located and recovered.
Juan Perez Gonzalez, of Louisville, was arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Property Over $10,000, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Theft by Unlawful Taking over $1,000,000.
KSP was assisted by LMPD, NICB, FBI, KSP Post 4, KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement as well as CargoNet. The case remains under investigation.
