Pursuit Ends with Two Arrested

(Morehead, KY) - On December 7, 2014, Officer Jerry Hudson attempted to make a traffic stop for a speeding violation on a maroon 2002 Chevrolet Impala 4D Sedan. The vehicle was traveling 87 mph in a 70 mph zone on Interstate 75 at the 86 mile marker northbound. The vehicle failed to yield to Officer Hudson's lights and siren, and exited the Interstate at Exit 87 onto the Eastern Bypass in Richmond, KY. The vehicle continued to flee down the Eastern Bypass, where it turned onto North Porter Drive. The driver ran a stop sign, and passed several vehicles in a no passing zone. When the vehicle turned onto Magnolia drive, the driver hit a curb and the tire blew out. The vehicle was disabled, and the driver fled the vehicle on foot. Officer Hudson gave chase with assistance from Trooper Ty Chavies and Trooper Joey Vorbeck, as well as officers from the Richmond Police Department. Officer Hudson was able to apprehend the suspect a short time later. Officer Hudson received minor injuries to his hands, and was treated and released from Baptist Health in Richmond, KY.

Johnny W. Owens of Richmond, KY was taken to the Madison County Detention Center, and charged with the following:

  • No Registration Plates
  • Reckless Driving
  • Disregarding Stop Sign
  • Fleeing Or Evading Police 1st Deg (Motor Vehicle)
  • Fleeing Or Evading Police 2nd Deg (On Foot)
  • Oper Mtr Veh Under Inlu Alc 1st Off
  • Wanton Endangerment - 1st Police Officer
  • Criminal Mischief 2nd Deg
  • Possession Of Synthetic Drugs
  • Drug Paraphernalia Buy/Possess

Natasha Johnson of Lexington, KY was the passenger of the vehicle. She was arrested and lodged into the Madison County Detention Center, and was charged with public intoxication.
