Fatality Collision on Mountain Parkway

Salyersville, KY (Magoffin County) - The Kentucky State Police/Commercial Vehicle Enforcement is investigating a two-vehicle, fatal collision that occurred on the Mountain Parkway, just East of Salyersville, on Monday, July 14, 2014, at approximately 11:01 A.M.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Marion Phillips, of West Liberty, Ky and passenger Christy Mullins of Pikeville, Ky were operating a 2010 Chrysler Sebring westbound on Mountain Parkway. Dewey Lowe, of Pikeville, Ky was operating a 2001 Peterbuilt tractor eastbound on Mountain Parkway when it appears that Mr. Phillips vehicle lost control while entering a steep right curve and veered into the eastbound lane and struck Mr. Lowes vehicle head-on. Both vehicles came to rest in the traveled portion of the roadway.

Mr. Phillips was transported, via ambulance, to Paul B. Hall Medical Center for serious injuries, and then to Pikeville Medical Center due to his condition. The passenger, Christy Mullins, was pronounced deceased on scene due to her injuries. Mr. Lowe was treated on scene and did not seek further medical treatment.

The following collision is under investigation by Kentucky State Police Officer Thomas Gearheart, and was assisted on scene by Officer. Darvin Marsillett, Officer. Randy Ferrell, Trooper Hunter Hensley, Magoffin County Sherriff Dept, Magoffin County Rescue, North Magoffin Fire Dept, Saylersville Fire Dept, Transtar Ambulance and Coroner Mark Jenkins.
