KSP/CVE Investigate Fatal Collision on AA Highway
Date of News Release: 01/26/2015
(Morehead, KY) -- At approximately 0900 hours on January 26, 2015, a head on collision occurred on the Grayson Spur of KY 9 (AA Highway) at the Lewis County and Carter County line involving a commercial tractor trailer and a passenger car. George T. Burton, 64, of Grayson, KY was traveling north on KY 9 when his 1998 Lincoln Town Car crossed the center line and collided with a 2007 Peterbuilt tractor and trailer that was being operated by Keith D. Bloomfield, 42, of Vanceburg, KY. This commercial vehicle was being operated under the authority of Madden Lumber of Vanceburg, KY. Roadway marks indicate that Mr. Burton's vehicle had crossed the center line into Mr. Bloomfield's legal path of travel. Damage to the front and drivers side of Mr. Burton's vehicle indicates that his vehicle was rotating clockwise prior to being struck. Due to this damage pattern and the slick snow covered roadway, it is believed that Mr. Burton had lost control and slid into the oncoming lane while negotiating a right handed curve. Mr. Burton was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Lewis County Coroner. Mr. Bloomfield was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center, where he was later released. This collision is still under investigation by Officer Larry Farris U/4271 of the Kentucky State Police Commercial Enforcement Division.
