KSP CVE Lieutenant Graduates SPI Institute

(Morehead, KY) -- Kentucky State Police Lieutenant John Kearns graduated from the Southern Police Institute on November 5, 2015. Forty-four students, from fourteen states and thirteen agencies, graduated from the 134th Administrative Officer's Course, which is a thirteen week course. The Southern Police Institute is a division of the Department of Criminal Justice, College of Arts and Sciences, at the University of Louisville. It is an advanced education and training institute, whose mission is to enhance the professional development of law enforcement practitioners. They provide educational and career development programs that are designed to challenge and prepare law enforcement practitioners for the demands of today and tomorrow. It is consistently ranked among the top law enforcement educational and training schools in the nation.
Lieutenant Kearns was born in Dallas, Texas, and attended high school in Winnsboro, Texas. He graduated from Western Kentucky University in 2002, and is currently working on his Masters of Public Administration at Eastern Kentucky University. He began his career as an officer with the agency in 2000. In 2010, he was promoted to a Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Sergeant for Morehead, Region 5. In 2011, he transferred to the Kentucky State Police Academy, where he worked as an instructor. In 2012, he was promoted to Lieutenant, where he served Region 3. In 2013, Lieutenant Kearns transferred back to Region 5 in Morehead to be closer to home.
Lieutenant Kearns makes his home with his family in Richmond, KY.
