Trooper Island would like to acknowledge the staff of Walmart in Monticello for donating an abundance of trees, roses, bushes and other flowers. Jeremiah Short, a Trooper Island Camper from Post 13, Hazard was eager to assist the Troopers in planting them. A big thank you to Jeremiah for his efforts!!

Members of the Morehead University Nursing class participated in a recent fundraiser with the Optimist Club in Farmers, KY. The dedicated group raised $900 for Trooper Island. Yard Sale at a Marina???

Lea and Dan Brown, with their family pet "Buoy" recently held a "yard sale" at the State Marina to raise money for Trooper Island. Even though we had a good rain last Saturday, many turned out for the support, raising $423. On Tuesday, April 30, the dynamic trio also assisted in sprucing up the cabins on Trooper Island. They are typical examples of the fun and family orientated neighbors in the area!! Thank you Lea and Dan!!!

MSU Nursing Students "Bond / Aid"  with the Island

On Monday, April 22, the 2013 graduating class of Morehead State University Nursing Students, lead by Dr. Stephanie Johnson and Tara Clark, both Associate Professors of Nursing, arrived at Trooper Island with a quantity of hygiene products for the children, and to participate in a two day clean up. They collected approximately 6,000 items, consisting of toilet paper, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, sunscrean and sandles. In addition, the group of students assisted the islands' maintenance staff with painting, washing the pontoon boats, deep cleaning of the kitchen and dining hall, reorganizing the storage facilities and many other tasks. They also had a chance to experience some fun such as canoeing, fishing, volleyball and kareoke. On behalf of the Trooper Island staff and the Kentucky State Police, a sincere appreciation is extended the MSU staff for these outstanding citizens.

On March 23rd, a group of MSU nursing students volunteered their time to raise funds for the new Trooper Island Memorial, honoring 25 Troopers and 1 Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer. The effort was coordinated by Savanna Keeton (front left) and Chelsea Wagner (front center). The group of supporters raised $1500 during the recent fundraising activity associated with the local Optimist Club's Bingo Hall in Farmers, KY. Also pictured with Keeton and Wagner is Ali Whitt (front right). (Back Row L-R) Megan Smith, Sherri Brown, Arian Snyder, Alicaia Harless, and Amy Ferrell (wife of Trooper Scott Ferrell, Post 8). Not pictured is Sarah Schlumpberger. This dedicated group would like to encourage everyone to honor the men who made the ultimate sacrifice as well as all law enforcement officers. On behalf of the Kentucky State Police, "thank you", and to all who share their centiment.


Walmart Donates for Trooper Island

Monticello Walmart Manager, Kevin Edmonson, presented a $2500 check to Trooper Island Camp Director, Endre Samu. The funds will greatly benefit the island. A sincere thank you is extended to the Walmart staff and the community of Monticello.

No, it's the latest model of Scag Mowers to be used at Trooper Island. Trooper Island Maintenance Supervisor, Jeff Brown was on hand to receive a new 61" Scag Mower for the 2013 mowing season. Tom Ault (left), Territory Manager of Midwest Equipment & Supply Co. and Eric Selby (right) of Highway 80 Auto, LLC annually donate the latest fashion mower to be used at Trooper Island. The staff at Trooper Island extends its sincerest appreciation to the respective representatives and their agencies for creating a safer and productive working environment!!

bd's Mongolian Grill Trooper Island Fundraiser

Two dedicated staff from Trooper Island spent quality time with the grill masters of bd's Mongolian Grill during the recent fund raiser.  Their support added to the flavoring atmosphere, filling the establishment with laughter and smiles!! Pictured with Matt Tuminski (center) are Jeff Brown (left) and Jeff Pickens (right). Great job fellas!!!

Winchester Elks Lodge# 2816 is recognized by Trooper Island

Trooper Island Camp Director, Endre Samu presented Winchester Elks Lodge # 2816 with an appreciation plaque for their contribution to Trooper Island. The Elks Lodge recently donated $1000 to Trooper Island and has pledged to continue with their support. Receiving the appreciation are (left to right), Janice Martin, trustee, Pat Spaulding, trustee, Paia Hanlin, trustee, Jerry Adams, Esteemed Leading Knight, and Harvey Frye, Esteemed Loyal Knight.

Ms. Jones clearly goes out of her way to support community awareness. A special thanks to her and her staff for their generous outpouring towards Trooper Island.

A group of generous staff from Indiana's "Horseshoe Casino" known as the "Community Involvement Team", collected a truck load of products to be donated to the campers of Trooper Island. Pictured with Camp Director Endre Samu (left) are Bryon Gay, Pit Boss (center) and Bryan Bentley, Director of Table Games (right). Mr. Gay has strong family ties to the Kentucky State Police. Mr. Bentley and Eileen Moore, Regional General Manager (not pictured) are strong supporters of the drive, encouraging the staff's participation within the charitable organization. The Kentucky State Police and the staff of Trooper Island sincerely appreciate our neighbors from the north for their thoughtfulness!!


Lowe's Stores and CVE team up to support Trooper Island

Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer, Steven Douglas (right) played it "cool" when he conveyed to Lowe's, the need for air conditioners for Trooper Island. Officer Douglas made contact with Tammy Baker, Human Resource Specialist (second from right) to obtain four 18,500 BTU air units. Also pictured are Mark Heiser, Store Manager for London's Lowe's Store # 2666 (left) and Nick Baker, Administrative Dept. Manager, who presented Officer Douglas with one unit. Through Ms. Baker's efforts, she made contact with area Lowe store managers, who also provided an air unit. A sincere "thank you" is extended to Mr. Greg Lakes of Corbin, Mr. John Vannice of Somerset, and Mr. John Masters of Danville. With the generous donations, the young campers will be able to stay cooler from the summer's heat. A very special "thank you" was also extended from Camp Director Endre Samu to CVE Officer Steven Douglas. Steve has consistently demonstrated going above and beyond his normal duties to support Trooper Island.


New Gas Grill Donated to Trooper Island

Members of the Lowe's Home-Improvement Store in London, Kentucky, (L-R) Jennifer Myers, Assistant Store Manager, Jamie Gambrell, Power Equipment Specialist and Chad Stout, Department Sales Manager, presented a donation of a gas barbecue grill to Trooper Island. The Kentucky State Police extend their appreciation to community businesses in supporting the children of Trooper Island.

Old Truck looks NEW AGAIN!!

Trooper Scott Ferrell of Post 8 in Morehead, (left) returned the Trooper Island dump truck with a fresh new coat of paint. Trooper Ferrell and Chris Mays (not pictured), a Montgomery County Fireman and owner of Mays Body Shop in Frenchburg, donated their time and paint to make the truck look new again. Trooper Ferrell is recognized for his countless hours of personal time donated towards the betterment of Trooper Island.
