Shelbyville, Ky. (February 27, 2018) – On Thursday February 22, 2018 Kentucky State Police responded to a single vehicle collision on Interstate 64 around the 32mm eastbound in Shelby County.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2007, Mercury Mariner driven by Jessica L. Carter, age 26 of Lawrenceburg, Ky. was traveling east on Interstate 64 near the 28mm when a tan SUV passed her and pulled in front of her. Jessica Carter then passed the tan SUV and pulled in front of it. The Tan SUV passed Jessica Carter again and debris started coming from the tan SUV. Jessica Carter, along with other motorists started to swerve to miss the objects.
Jessica lost control of her vehicle around the 31mm. She went off the roadway on the right shoulder. The vehicle rolled over several times before coming to rest upside down on the right shoulder. The tan SUV continued east bound and did not stop. Jessica Carter was transported to University of Louisville where she was later pronounced deceased.
The Kentucky State Police are seeking any information about the tan SUV or any other parties who may have witnessed or were involved in the events leading up to the fatal collision. Kentucky State Police were assisted at the scene by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Shelby County Fire and EMS and the Shelby County Coroner.
The investigation is ongoing by Kentucky State Police Post 12 and Collision Reconstruction Units.
