Guthrie, KY (Todd County) – On October 9, 2018, at approximately 6:50 PM, the Kentucky State Police Post 2 in Madisonville received a call of a two vehicle collision that occurred on Old Railroad Lane 6 miles north of Guthrie KY.
Preliminary investigation revealed Aden Coblentz, 69 years of age, of Guthrie, KY, was operating a Ford Farm Tractor southbound on Old Railroad Lane. Maurice Smith, 37 years of age, of Allensville KY was operating a 2006 Buick Rendezvous northbound on Old Railroad Lane. As Mr. Smith passed the tractor he struck the left side outer dual tire of the tractor with the front driver’s side of his vehicle. As a result of the collision the tractor exited the northbound shoulder traversing a grassy area before encountering a ditch line. As the tractor crossed the ditch line Mr. Coblentz was ejected from the tractor. Mr. Coblentz was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Todd County Coroner. The investigation is ongoing by Sergeant Nick Rice.
KSP would like to warn motorists to be aware it is harvesting season, and farmers are going to be on the roadway. Motorists need to be aware of their surroundings and know there is a high likelihood they may encounter farm equipment during their travels.
