David Williams has been lodged in the Scott County Detention Center.
Lexington, Ky. (February 14, 2019) – The Scott County Sheriff’s Office Responded to a Theft of Mail Matter complaint near Georgetown in Scott County. After finding the suspect a pursuit started. This lead to shots being fired and later the suspect was apprehended.
A Scott County Deputy responded to a complaint of a person stealing mail in the area of Paris Pike. A deputy encountered the suspect vehicle, a grey 2003 Buick Le Sabre. When the deputy attempted to make contact with the suspect, the vehicle fled the scene. The deputy then began to pursue the suspect. The suspect was speeding and driving reckless toward Fayette County. Prior to entering Fayette County the suspect began to throw mail and other items out of the driver’s side window. The pursuit entered into Fayette County and other deputies attempted to lay down spike strips. The suspect vehicle approached the intersection of Iron Works Pike and Newtown Pike, at a high rate of speed and was headed toward the deputies standing outside their vehicles. Two deputies fired in the direction of the suspect vehicle failing to stop the pursuit. The suspect turned south on Newtown Pike and the suspect drove on the wrong side of the roadway. The suspect lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a ditch, disabling his vehicle. A foot pursuit ensued and the suspect was placed into custody several hundred feet away from the crash site. No deputy or suspect was injured in the pursuit or shooting.
David Williams age 32, of Lexington was charged Reckless Driving, Fleeing or Evading Police 1st, Theft of Mail Matter, Tampering with Physical Evidence and several warrants from Fayette County. David Williams has been lodged in the Scott County Detention Center.
The investigation is still ongoing by Kentucky State Police Post 12 Detectives.
