Nortonville, Ky. (Hopkins County) – On May 17, 2020, around 10:01 PM, Trooper Ridge Porter of Kentucky State Police Post 2 in Madisonville, observed a 1996 Nissan Maxima with multiple equipment violations, on South Main Street in Nortonville.
Trooper Porter activated his emergency equipment to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle accelerated and began to flee. The pursuit continued until the Maxima struck a fence on West Pine Street. The operator exited his vehicle and began to run on foot, but was quickly apprehended. The operator was then identified as 27-year-old Justin Cardwell, of Nortonville.
Justin Cardwell was arrested and lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center, where he was charged with the following:
- One Headlight
- Improper Equipment
- Reckless Driving
- Failure of Owner to Maintain Required INS/SEC, 1st Offense
- Fleeing or Evading Police, 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle)
- Instructional Permit Violations
- Resisting Arrest
- Disregarding Stop Sign
- Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree
