UPDATE – Lexington, KY. (July 12, 2019) – Kentucky State Police Detectives with the Critical Incident Response Team are now releasing the names of everyone involved in this investigation.
Lexington Metro Police Officer Ichiro Vance is the officer involved in this investigation. The Lexington Metro Police department will be releasing further information about Officer Vance later this date.
Marcellis D. Means age 23, of Lexington Ky. is the individual involved in the shooting and has been charged with the federal offense of Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Other federal and state charges may be pending.
Lea L. Williams age 18, of Nicholasville Ky. was the passenger in the car with Marcellis Means. Lea Williams has been charged by a Lexington Metro Police Officer with Disorderly Conduct 2nd, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Marijuana, and Tampering with Physical Evidence. Other charges may be pending.
The investigation into the officer involved shooting is still ongoing by Kentucky State Police Detectives from the Critical Incident Response Team. Further updates to the investigation will be released as they become available.
UPDATE – Lexington, KY. (July 11, 2019) – The suspect involved in the officer involved shooting yesterday evening has been released from the hospital and lodged in the Fayette County Detention Center. The suspect is currently charged with the federal offense of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, other federal and state charges may be pending.
The Kentucky State Police have been made aware of a growing social media rumor that the suspect was shot in the back. Kentucky State Police Detectives with the Critical Incident Response Team can confirm those rumors are not true.
An 18 year old female passenger in the car with the suspect was also arrested and is being held at the Fayette County Detention Center.

Lexington, KY (July 10, 2019) — A Lexington Police officer has been involved in an on-duty shooting that left a 23-year-old male subject with injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening. The officer was not injured in the incident.
Shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, the officer was responding to a report of a residential burglary on Patchen Drive near Richmond Road. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a car occupied by a male driver and female passenger. As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver jumped out and fled on foot. The officer engaged in a brief foot pursuit and shots were fired. The subject suffered gunshot wounds to his lower body.
The officer called for Emergency Care, and the subject was transported to a hospital for treatment. A gun the subject was believed to have been in possession of was recovered at the scene.
This incident is being investigated by the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team. In accordance with the Lexington Police Department’s policy regarding post-shooting investigations, the department’s Public Integrity Unit will conduct an internal review of the incident. The officer will be placed on administrative assignment pending the outcome of the investigation.
