Lexington, KY (July 31,2020) – Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 12 Frankfort was contacted by Lexington Police Department this morning and asked to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Lexington at approximately 1:40 a.m
The initial investigation indicates that a Lexington Police officer was dispatched to the area of 5th Street and Chestnut Street in response to an armed male subject standing in the roadway. When the responding officer arrived on scene he located the armed subject and gave several verbal commands for the suspect to drop the weapon. The suspect did not comply, and a brief foot pursuit ensued. During the encounter with the armed individual, shots were fired by the officer. The suspect received non-life-threatening injuries and has been transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment.
As a result of the incident, the suspect was charged by Lexington Police Department with Fleeing and Evading 2nd Degree, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Menacing, and Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree.
This is an ongoing investigation led by the KSP Critical Incident Response Team.
