Two Dead After Pursuit Ends In Hardin Co.
Radcliff, KY. (October 21, 2018) –Kentucky State Police Post 4 Troopers responded to a two-vehicle collision in Hardin Co. Saturday night. On October 20, 2018 at approximately 8:37 P.M. EDT, KSP Post 4 received a call from Hardin County Dispatch requesting KSP investigate a collision at the intersection of US 31-W and Battle Training Road (KY 434). The preliminary investigation revealed the Meade County Sheriff’s Office, Vine Grove Police Department and Radcliff Police Department were in a pursuit of a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Shawn Welsh (36) of Marion, WV. The pursuit originated in Meade County and traveled through the cities of Radcliff and Vine Grove.
As Welsh attempted to travel south through the intersection, he struck Jacob Barber (18) of Elizabethtown, who was attempting to cross US 31-W in a 2000 Honda Accord. Barber was pronounced deceased at the scene, along with a 17 year old juvenile passenger. Two other juvenile passengers in Barber’s vehicle were transported to Norton’s Children’s Hospital with life threatening injuries.
Welsh was transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was later released into the custody of the Meade County Sheriff’s Office. Laura Neville (36) of Morgantown, WV, a passenger in Welsh’s vehicle; was transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was later released into the custody of KSP Post 4. Neville was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center and was charged with Possession of controlled substance 1st Degree (methamphetamine) and on a fugitive warrant.
KSP Post 4 was assisted at the scene by Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, Hardin County EMS, Hardin County Coroner’s Office, Radcliff Police Department, Vine Grove Police Department, and the Radcliff Fire Department. The investigation is ongoing by Detective/Reconstructionist Bryan Washer.
