Harned, KY. (March 29, 2019) – Kentucky State Police Post 4 Troopers responded to a two vehicle collision Thursday evening in Breckinridge County. At approximately 7:22 P.M. CDT, KSP Post 4 received a call from the Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Department requesting KSP investigate a fatal collision on KY 259 two miles south of Harned in Breckinridge County. The preliminary investigation revealed, Joey Carter (35) of Hardinsburg, was traveling south on KY 259 in a 2002 Ford Explorer when he turned into the path of a 2007 Ford Fusion traveling north, operated by Jonathan Masterson (29) of Hudson. As a result of the collision, Carter’s vehicle rolled over before coming to a stop upside down in the roadway and Masterson’s vehicle exited the right side of the roadway before stopping.
Masterson and his front passenger, Ashlynn Masterson (30) of Hudson, were transported to the University of Louisville Hospital for life threatening injuries. A seven year old female passenger in the rear passenger seat died as a result of the injuries sustained in the collision. Carter was taken to Breckinridge Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and was later charged with Driving Under the Influence 2nd offense, Murder and two counts of Assault 2nd Degree. He was lodged in the Breckinridge County Detention Center. The Kentucky State Police was assisted at the scene by the Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office, Breckinridge County Coroner’s Office and Breckinridge County EMS.
