Elizabethtown, Ky. (March 5, 2021) – A Pursuit starting in Elizabethtown ends on I-65 in Jefferson County. On March 4, 2021 around 7:00 p.m. ET, Kentucky State Police Post 4 received a call in reference to a reckless driver from a traveling motorist stating they observed what they believed to be a female passenger that appeared to be in some type of distress. Troopers located the vehicle exiting I-65 southbound at Elizabethtown, exit 94. As troopers attempted a traffic stop near Executive Drive the vehicle fled from troopers and reentered northbound onto I-65.
As the pursuit continued north, with speeds reaching 115 mph, Troopers were successful in deflating the rear driver’s side tire with stop sticks near the 111 mile-marker. The pursuit continued north to the 131 mile-marker in Jefferson County when the suspect lost control of the vehicle striking the center barrier wall before traveling across the northbound lanes and striking the guardrail.
After troopers made contact with the driver a brief altercation occurred and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. The driver, Dana R. Ashbrook (32) of Kissimmee, FL, and his female passenger were taken to University of Louisville Hospital for minor injuries and was released a short time later. During the course of the investigation troopers discovered, the female passenger was the girlfriend of Ashbrook and she stated to the troopers that he would not let her exit the vehicle prior to the incident.
Ashbrook was charged with a several charges including kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, wanton endangerment, DUI and speeding. He was later lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center. The investigation is on going by Trooper Jonathan Downs with the KSP DESI West Interdiction Unit. KSP was assisted by the Lebanon Junction Police Department, Shepherdsville Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Louisville Metro Police Department.
