Elizabethtown, KY. (July 22, 2020) –Kentucky State Police Post 4 troopers were able to recover a stolen Chevrolet pickup less than three minutes after being stolen from the IGA in Upton. On July 21, 2020 at approximately 9:12 AM EST, KSP Post 4 was contacted by a victim of a car theft from the IGA located in Upton. The caller was able to give a description of the Chevrolet pickup truck and stated it was last seen getting on northbound I-65. Less than three minutes later troopers were able to locate the vehicle northbound on I-65 near the 91 mile-marker.
As troopers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver drove off the roadway before becoming stuck in a creek adjacent to I-65. The driver fled on foot and was located approximately an hour later hiding behind a house on Springfield Road in Elizabethtown. The suspect, Matthew R. Noe (34) of Upton was taken into custody without further incident. Noe was charged with the following charges and lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center.
-Theft by unlawful taking (auto) $10,000 or more, but less than $1,000,000
-Fleeing or Evading Police, 1st Degree
-Operating on suspended or revoked operator license
-Failure to surrender revoked operator license
-Theft by unlawful taking (all other) $500 or more, but less than $10,000
