The incidents remain under investigation by the KSP
Morehead, Ky. (November 26, 2018) On November 25, 2018 at approximately 5:45 p.m., the Kentucky State Police received a call from St. Claire Hospital that Coy Adkins, 55 years old of Morehead, had arrived with a gunshot wound. Mr. Adkins was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital where he was treated and released. Kentucky State Police, Fish and Wildlife and the Rowan County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene. It was determined that Lucas Vanderpool, 33 years old of Salt Lick, had shot Mr. Adkins. Mr. Vanderpool fled from the scene after the shooting.
While investigating the shooting, investigators were notified of an armed robbery at the Eagle Travel Plaza Truck Stop in Rowan County. Kentucky State Police, Rowan County Sheriff’s Department and the Morehead Police Department responded to the scene on KY 801. An undisclosed amount of money was taken during the armed robbery. The male subject left in an unknown direction of travel. It was later determined that Lucas Vanderpool had committed the armed robbery.
At 7:58 p.m. Mr. Vanderpool proceeded to commit another armed robbery at the Super Express Stop in Montgomery County. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene on US 60 in Montgomery County. It was determined that Lucas Vanderpool had left with an undisclosed amount of money.
Approximately 8:21 p.m. Mr. Vanderpool was involved in a single vehicle fatal accident in Bourbon County. The incidents remain under investigation by the Kentucky State Police.
