Collision Involving a Train

Date of News Release: 10/14/2010

(Grant County, Ky.) -- On October 14th 2010, at approximately 7:17 p.m., Troopers from Kentucky State Police Post in Dry Ridge responded to a report of a collision involving a train near the Needham Lane crossing two miles north of Dry Ridge, KY. Upon investigation it was determined that Damon Hardy, 45 years old, of Verona, KY, was traveling northbound on US Highway 25 in a 1998 Ford pickup truck. Mr. Hardy's vehicle ran off the right side of the highway and struck an earth embankment. Mr. Hardy's vehicle then overturned onto its top and came to a final rest on a set of railroad tracks near Needham Lane. Mr. Hardy exited the vehicle uninjured from the initial collision. While Troopers were responding to the collision, a Norfolk Southern train traveling south struck Mr. Hardy's vehicle pushing it approximately 200 yards south of the initial collision. The vehicle was unoccupied at the time of the collision with the train and no injuries were sustained. The collision remains under investigation by Trooper Chad Mills.

The Kentucky State Police was assisted at the scene by the Grant County Sheriffs Office.
