Officer involved shooting in Montgomery County

(Morehead, Ky.) -- On September 1st, 2011 at 4:16 p.m. Kentucky State Police in Morehead was contacted by Montgomery County Dispatch requesting assistance in reference to an Officer involved shooting that took place at a residence on Science Ridge Road in Jeffersonville. Kentucky State Police Troopers and Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers responded to the scene. Montgomery County Sheriff's Department was assisting Buffalo Trace Drug Task Force with the execution of a search warrant. The officers announced themselves and made entry into the residence, coming in contact with Laura Johnson, the home owner, who was ordered to the ground. A member of the Buffalo Trace Drug Task Force entered a bedroom and noticed Terry Pruitt crouched down behind a bed, pointing a pistol at him. The officer gave loud verbal commands for Mr. Pruitt to put down his weapon, but he refused to comply. The officer then discharged his firearm, resulting in the death of Terry A. Pruitt. Mr. Pruitt was pronounced deceased at 5:41 p.m. by the Montgomery County Coroner Josh Coffman. An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow morning. Incident remains under investigation by Detective Larry Bowling.
