Single vehicle injury collision on I-64

Date of News Release: 10/03/2011

(Morehead, Ky.) -- October 3, 2011, at 10:25 a.m., Stephen L. Reynolds was driving a United Parcel Service tandem trailer in the west bound lane on Interstate 64 near mile marker 140. Mr. Reynolds informed KSP CVE Officer Tommy Jones that he was traveling in the right lane when an unknown vehicle passed directly in front of him on the left side, coming within close proximity to the front of the tractor-trailer. Mr. Reynolds attempted to avoid impact and swerved to the right, making contact with the soft shoulder surface. Mr. Reynolds then over-corrected, resulting in the tractor-trailer swerving to the left, overturning, and coming to final rest on its right side, blocking both westbound lanes. Reynolds was taken to St. Claire Hospital in Morehead for minor injuries by local ambulance. There was no environmental impact as a result of the accident. PECCO Services from Nicholasville, KY responded to the scene to assist in the transfer of fuel. McGuire's Towing Service from Ashland also responded. Administrative Supervisors from United Parcel Service also responded to assess the scene and to arrange transfer of parcels. No charges are pending. Alcohol or drugs is not believed to be a factor.
