Injury Collision on the William Natcher Parkway
Date of News Release: 05/28/2012
(Henderson, KY) -- On 05/28/2012 the Kentucky State Police investigated a two-vehicle injury collision that occurred on the William Natcher Parkway at the 50 mile-marker. This location is approximately one-mile north of Hartford in Ohio County.
Both southbound lanes of the William Natcher Parkway were temporarily shut down due to a multiple fatality collision, which was at the 44 mile-marker. Hartford Police Department was assisting KSP by redirecting southbound traffic onto KY 69 (in attempts to by-pass the fatality collision at the 44 mile-marker).
The preliminary investigation revealed that Dave Mullins was stopped in traffic at the 50 mile-marker waiting to be redirected onto KY 69. Stephen Bair was also on the William Natcher Parkway, traveling southbound in his 2009 Toyota Prius. Bair stated he fell asleep while driving and struck the rear of Mullins 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. Mullins vehicle then slid into and struck Hartford Police Officer Chris Shephard. Shephard was thrown into the median after impact.
All participants, including Shephard, were transported to Ohio County Hospital and Owensboro Medical Health Systems. Conditions are unknown.
Trooper First Class Chris Armburst investigated the collision.
