Traffic Crash with Fatality at the Laurel / Pulaski County Line

(LONDON, KY.) -- On Thursday, March 07, 2013 at approximately 7:48 a.m., the Kentucky State Police, Post 11 London, received a report of a two vehicle traffic crash, with injury, on KY 80 west of London at the Laurel / Pulaski County line.
Upon arrival Trooper First Class Don Trosper determined that a white, 1996, Jeep, Cherokee, SUV operated by Suzan P. Whitaker, 53, of Somerset, was traveling eastbound on KY 80 when it went out of control of the ice cover bridge, crossed the centerline and struck a white, 2009, Sterling, tractor / trailer, operated by Michael P. Cronan, 56, of Smithfield.
Whitaker, who was ejected from her vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Laurel County Coroner Doug Bowling.
Cronan was taken to the Lake Cumberland Regional Medical Center as a precaution.
No drug or alcohol usage was suspected.
TFC Trosper is in charge of the investigation and was assisted at the scene by officers from the Kentucky State Police, the KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, the Laurel and Rockcastle County EMS and local fire departments.
