Two Men Arrested After Shelby County Pursuit

(Frankfort, KY) -- On Friday, February 1, 2013 at 11:05 pm, Tpr. Jack Hedges stopped to check on a motorist assist on westbound I-64 in Shelby County. The vehicle's occupants advised that everything was fine and abruptly drove away. Tpr. Hedges returned to his vehicle and noticed that the occupants left alcohol containers along side the roadway.
Tpr. Hedges activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to make a traffic stop. The driver failed to comply and began eluding. The eluding vehicle passed a tractor trailer, and due to the snow covered roadways, the driver lost control and entered the median. The driver continued fleeing and re-entered I-64 westbound into the path of Tpr. Hedges. The fleeing vehicle struck Tpr. Hedges State Police vehicle causing minor damage. Additional Troopers arrived on the scene. The driver and passenger were arrested.
Both the driver and passenger were taken to the Shelbyville Hospital with minor injuries. They were medically released and subsequently lodged in the Shelby County Detention Center. The driver Brian Haddix, age 58 of Taylorsville, KY, was charged with Speeding, Open Alcohol Container, DUI 2nd, Driving Too Fast for Roadway Conditions, No Operators License, Failure to Surrender Revoked Operators License, Wanton Endangerment, Driving on a DUI Suspended License and Fleeing and Evading 1st.
The passenger John Haddix, age 55 of Pineridge, KY, was charged with Alcohol Intoxication and Possession of a Controlled Substance. The investigation is continuing by KSP Frankfort Post and more charges are pending.
