Update: Knott County Officer Involved Shooting

Date of News Release: 10/07/2013

(Mallie, KY) - On Sunday, October 6, 2013, at approximately 5:58 pm, Deputies Leo Slone, and Michael Caudill, with the Knott County Sheriff's Department, responded to Steer Fork Road, in the Mallie community of Knott County. The response was related to a complaint of an alleged intoxicated subject, who was discharging a firearm, and making threats toward family members. Upon arrival by deputies, a male subject opened gunfire in their direction. Deputies returned fire, striking the individual who was shooting at them, ending the confrontation.

Timothy Slone, age 56, of Mallie, was airlifted to Pikeville Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained during this incident. Mr. Slone is currently listed in stable condition with apparent non-life threatening injuries.

Detectives from Kentucky State Police Post 13, in Hazard, responded to the scene, and are currently conducting an investigation. Charges for two counts of attempted murder of a police officer are pending at this time. Deputies Slone and Caudill have been placed on administrative leave, per their agency's policy and procedure.

Knott County Officer Involved Shooting

(Hazard, KY) - On October 6, 2013 just before 6:00 pm, Deputies with the Knott County Sheriff's office were involved in a shooting in the Mallie Community. A male subject opened fire on the Deputies, the Deputies returned fire injuring him and he was transported to an area hospital where he is now listed in stable condition. Detectives with the Kentucky State Police in Hazard are investigating.
