Greenup County Bomb Threats Felony Arrest

(Ashland, Ky.) -- The Kentucky State Police in Ashland have arrested a Greenup County juvenile after conducting an investigation into reported threats against the Greenup County High School students, staff and facility.

On Monday January 14, 2013 The Kentucky State Police was contacted and advised text messages had been received from an anonymous individual stating a bomb had been placed at the Greenup County High School. Emergency personnel responded and conducted a search of school property. The search did not reveal any explosive devices at that time. The Kentucky State Police began an investigation into the threats that day.

On Tuesday January 15, 2013 The Kentucky State Police received an additional call which involved threats being made against students and staff at Greenup County High School. A text coming from the same number as the previous dates bomb threat had been received which threatened killing people at the school. The school was placed on a modified lock down and a search of the facility was conducted to ensure the safety of each individual on the property.

The Kentucky State Police continued the investigation and with the help of Greenup County Deputy Greg Virgin, was able to develop a suspect in this case.

During the course of the investigation it was determined the individual responsible for making the threats had attempted to conceal his identity by using a cell phone application designed to change his cell phone number to send each text.

A 17 year old Greenup County High School Student has been arrested, lodged in the Boyd County Juvenile Detention Center and charged with

Terroristic Threatening 1st Degree
Terroristic Threatening 2nd Degree
Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree (2 Counts)

The investigation is ongoing by Detective Chris Carter.

"Threats of this nature are extremely serious and will not be tolerated. The Kentucky State Police will act with due diligence in an effort to resolve complaints of this nature. Any individual responsible will be punished to the full extent of the law." Said Cpt. J. Stephens, Commander Post 14.
