(Ashland, Ky.) -- The human skeletal remains located on October 14, 2012 near Clifty Creek at Grayson Lake have been positively identified as Nathan R. Barker, DOB 05-24-1991. A missing person's investigation began into Mr. Barker's disappearance on July 12, 2011 investigated by the Carter County Sheriff's Department after his vehicle was found wrecked and abandoned at KY 7 and KY 986. The Kentucky State Police assumed the investigation upon discovery of the remains and investigation has revealed Mr. Barker's death was the result of an accidental fall from a cliff. Throughout the investigation, a substantial amount of evidence was discovered confirming Mr. Barker's death as accidental in nature. Among other things, the evidence consists of cell phone records, autopsy findings, and scene examination. During the examination of the scene, Mr. Barker's cell phone was located. After technicians repaired the phone, it was discovered that Mr. Barker had attempted to send several text messages describing his vehicle accident and him walking in a wooded area near the accident scene in an attempt to find help. Mr. Barker indicated in the text messages his location and his unfamiliarity with the wooded area. This wooded area was the location Mr. Barker's remains were located. Autopsy findings confirm Mr. Barker's injuries were indicative of a fall from a cliff. Further findings from the autopsy state there was no evidence of foul play in Mr. Barker's death.
