Two Dead in Washington County Shooting

(Springfield, Ky.) -- On Sunday, January 13 Post 15 received a call from the Washington County Dispatch in reference to a possible shooting. At approximately 10:16 PM EDT Springfield Police Department's 911 received a call in reference to a man threatening suicide at a residence on Brushgrove Road, 12 miles north of Springfield. As deputies were en route to the residence a second call was received at approximately 10:28 PM EDT; the caller advised that someone had been shot in the residence and that two others had left and made it to a neighbor's home.

Deputies, Troopers and members of the Kentucky State Police Special Response Team (S.R.T.) responded to the scene. At approximately 3:39 AM EDT this morning the SRT entered the residence and found one male and one female deceased and secured the residence. Investigators are still on the scene at this time.

The victims have been identified as 52-year-old William Woodford and Woodford's mother-in-law, 58-year-old Phyllis Tarter, both of Washington County. William Woodford's wife, Debbie Woodford and his 17-year-old stepson fled the residence and were not injured. Autopsy's have been scheduled for later today at the State Medical Examiner's office.
