Lebanon Teen Killed in a Collision on US 68

Date of News Release: 12/06/2013

(Lebanon, KY) - Tpr. Morris Farris is investigating a collision that occurred today (12/06/13) at 12:00 PM EDT on US 68, 3 miles east of Lebanon. 18-year-old Joseph L. Osbourn, of Lebanon, was traveling west on US 68, operating a 2010 Pontiac G6 when he crossed the centerline and entered the eastbound traffic lane. 44-year-old Roy M. Burchett, of Gravel Switch, was traveling east on US 68 operating a 2000 Ford Van.

Mr. Osbourn attempted to avoid a collision and drove off of the eastbound side of the roadway where the vehicle overturned several times. Mr. Osbourn was wearing a seatbelt and refused treatment at the scene. A passenger, 18-year-old Justin Wheatley, of Loretto, was also wearing a seatbelt and refused treatment. Another passenger, 19-year-old Colin D. Whitfill, of Lebanon, was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at Springview hospital by the Marion County coroner at 1:33 PM EDT.

Mr. Burchett also attempted to avoid the head-on collision and steered his vehicle into the westbound lane. The 2 vehicles slapped mirrors on the passenger sides and Mr. Burchett was able to keep control of his vehicle. He and a passenger, 34-year-old Elizabeth Burchett, of Gravel Switch, were not injured.

Trooper Farris was assisted at the scene by the Marion County Sheriffs Department and Marion County EMS.
