Injury Collision on KY 137 in Livingston County

Date of News Release: 09/28/2013

(Hickory, KY) - Teala Owens, of Smithland, Kentucky, was traveling north on KY 137 / River Road, near Smithland, in her 2002 Ford Taurus, with her child, Braden Owens, restrained in a child safety seat in the rear of the vehicle. Owens stated she reached down to retrieve an item from her floor when she lost control. Mrs. Owens' vehicle traveled off the right shoulder of the roadway. She then over corrected, and traveled off the left shoulder, then back across both lanes and off the right shoulder where she once again over corrected, causing the vehicle to rotate, and travel back toward the left shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle then traveled off the left shoulder. While the vehicle traveled down an embankment, the vehicle overturned multiple times, ejecting the unrestrained driver out the side window of the vehicle. The vehicle came to final rest on its top in a field. Owens advised she was able to make her way to the vehicle and assist her child out of the safety seat he was still restrained in. Owens suffered multiple non-incapacitating injuries during the collision. The child was transported for possible injuries, though none were apparent.
