Pursuit on I-24
Date of News Release: 10/04/2013
(Hickory, Ky.) - Trooper Williams was on Interstate 24 when he observed a 1998 Dodge Durango traveling west at a high rate of speed. Trooper Williams activated his emergency equipment and attempted to stop the vehicle. The operator, Jonathan Crum of Morehead, Kentucky, accelerated and continued west on the interstate, refusing to stop. McCracken County Sheriff's Department deployed deflation devices which deflated the front tires of the suspect vehicle. The vehicle continued to travel approximately 3 miles before exiting the right side of the interstate and running through a fence. Mr. Crum fled from the vehicle on foot and evaded capture after entering a wooded area. Mr. Crum's wife, Rebecca Rupe, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was arrested for outstanding warrants from three Kentucky counties. Kentucky State Police have obtained warrants on Mr. Crum, who remains at large. Trooper Williams was assisted during the pursuit by the McCracken County Sheriff's Office.
