Date of News Release: 01/31/2013

(RADCLIFF, KY) At 6:25PM on January 30, 2013, the Kentucky State Police Post in Elizabethtown was contacted by Radcliff Police Department to request the KSP lead the investigation into a shooting that involved a Radcliff Police Officer.

Radcliff Police had responded to 630 Seminole Drive Apartment 3 to a report of a Burglary. During the investigation, the suspect was identified as 47 year old Michael Strand, who resided in Apartment 4 of the same building. After making contact with Mr. Strand, gunfire was exchanged between Mr. Strand and Officer Terry Moore, a 2 1/2 year veteran of the Radcliff Police Department and a retired Kentucky State Trooper. During the exchange of gunfire, Sergeant Jeremy Davis, a 6 1/2 year veteran of the Radcliff Police Department was struck in the foot from one of the rounds fired by Mr. Strand. Sergeant Davis received minor injuries from the round. Sergeant Joe Gonzales, a 6 1/2 year veteran of the department was also present during the exchange of gunfire. He nor Officer Moore were injured.

Mr. Strand was found deceased inside the apartment after other officers arrived on scene. While the exact series of events are still under investigation, preliminary autopsy results showed that Mr. Strand died as a result of a self inflicted gunshot wound.

In addition to Radcliff Police Department and KSP, units from Vine Grove Police, Hardin County EMS and Radcliff Fire Department responded to the scene.
