Two Killed, One Injured in Owen County Crash

(Owenton, KY) -- Two people have been killed and one person has been critically injured in a two-vehicle crash in Owen County. Kentucky State Police dispatchers received a call of the crash at 5:17 this evening. Preliminary investigation shows that a pickup truck, driven by 51 year old Gary Sigretto of Owenton, KY, was traveling south on Highway 127 when the vehicle crossed the center line for unknown reasons. Sigretto's truck collided head-on with a car driven by 73 year old Lillie Newby of Frankfort, KY. Newby and her passenger, 76 year old Patricia Gibson of Frankfort, KY, were transported to New Horizons Medical Center in Owenton where they were both pronounced dead by the Owen County Coroner. Sigretto was flown by Air Methods, Inc. to the University of Cincinnati Hospital for life-threatening injuries. Everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt. Toxicology results for Sigretto are pending.
Trooper Dusty Corbin, an accident reconstructionist, is leading the ongoing investigation. Trooper Corbin was assisted at the scene by the Owen County Sheriff's Department, Owen County Rescue Squad, Owen County Fire Department, Owen County EMS, Owenton Fire Department, Monterey Fire Department, and the New Liberty Fire Department.
