One Killed in an ATV Collision in Pike County

(Pikeville, Ky.) -- On Sunday April 7, 2013 at 3:59 P.M. Post 9 Pikeville received a call that an ATV had ran off the roadway on Caney Creek in the Pikeville community. KSP Tpr. Nick Hale, Tpr. Joshua Cox, Trans-Star Ambulance and Gulnare Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. Information obtained at the scene indicates that the operator of the ATV was traveling South on Caney Creek Road when the ATV dropped off the right shoulder of the roadway. The operator then overcorrected, crossing the roadway, striking a tree on the Northbound shoulder and overturning. A passenger a juvenile, of Pikeville was pronounced deceased at the scene by Pike County Deputy Coroner Zeb Hampton. The operator of the ATV, also a juvenile, was transported to Pikeville Medical Center. This accident remains under investigation by KSP Tpr. Nick Hale.
