Harlan County Fatal

(Rosspoint, Ky.) - On August 1, 2014 Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan received a call at 6:00 a.m. about a fatal collision on U.S.119 in the Rosspoint community of Harlan County.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a 1978 Mack dump truck operated by William Caldwell, 60, of Bledsoe was traveling North on U.S.119 in the slow lane when a 2007 Chevrolet Impala struck the dump truck in the rear. The operator of the Impala, Tracey Rapier, 40, of Evarts was transported to Harlan County ARH for injuries. The passenger, Donald P. Tarbell, 41, or Coxton was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner, Jim Rich. Neither occupants were wearing their seatbelts. Mr. Tarbell was removed from the vehicle by Harlan County Rescue Squad by mechanical means. Mr. Caldwell did not receive any injuries from the collision.
Collision is still under investigation by Tpr. Mike Cornett. He was assisted at the scene by Harlan Police Department, Harlan County Rescue squad, Tpr. Kenny Abner and Officer Jason Freeman.
