Date of News Release: 10/02/2014
(Tremont, Ky.) – A Tremont man was injured Thursday evening in a two vehicle collision on U.S. 119 in the Sawbriar community of Harlan County.
The call was received by KSP 911 at 7:27 p.m. Troopers Kenny Sergent, Kevin Miller and Rodney Sturgill were dispatched to the scene.
Following investigation by Tpr. Sergent it was determined that Dylan Kenneth Brewer, age 18, was operating a dirt bike on the southbound shoulder of U.S. 119. A 2004 International Box Truck operated by David Long, age 40, of Maryville, Tenn. was sitting on the shoulder at the junction of Elk Road and U.S.119, attempting to access 119. Mr. Brewer, in an attempt to avoid collision, applied his brakes and the bike fell on its side and slid under the truck.
Members of the Wallins Fire Department were summoned to the scene to set up a landing zone for a helicopter. Both lanes of U.S. 119 were closed for nearly 20 minutes as Mr. Brewer was airlifted by AirEvac Lifeteam to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn. At the time of this release, the condition of Mr. Brewer is unknown. He was wearing a helmet. Mr. Long was uninjured.
LifeCare EMS also assisted at the scene.
Investigation continues by Tpr. Sergent.
