Pedestrian Fatality in McCreary County

(LONDON, KY.) – On Thursday, September 11, 2014 at approximately 9:57 AM, Kentucky State Police Post 11, London received a report of a pedestrian struck by a train on George Jones Road in McCreary County.

Upon arrival Traffic Crash Reconstructionist Trooper Craig Reed determined that a northbound Norfolk Southern train struck Edward Murphy, 75, of Marshes Siding, KY as he was attempting to cross the tracks at the George Jones Road crossing.

Murphy was pronounced dead at the scene by the McCreary County Coroner's Office.

Preliminary investigation revealed that all the crossing signals were working at the time of the incident.

Trooper Reed continues the investigation and was assisted at the scene by KSP Detective Billy Correll, LT Stuart Bryant with Kentucky Fish and Wildlife, McCreary County Sheriff's Office and McCreary County EMS.
