Shooting Investigation in Shelby County

(Frankfort, KY) - On Tuesday February 25, 2014 at 8:49 PM, Kentucky State Police, Post 12 Frankfort received a request from Shelbyville Police Department to assist with an armed subject barricaded in his residence on Gray Hill Court, Shelbyville, KY.

While attempting to serve a warrant on Gray Hill Court, Shelbyville Police Officers were met at the door by a male subject brandishing a long gun. Kentucky State Police Units and Kentucky State Police Special Response Team were called to the scene to assist. As a safety precaution, a perimeter was established and several nearby residences were evacuated.

Negotiators spoke with the subject by phone in an attempt to orchestrate a peaceful resolution to the situation. During the negotiations, the barricaded subject fired numerous times at the officers. Officers returned fire, striking and killing the subject. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Shelby County Coroner's Office.

Kentucky State Police were assisted at the scene by Shelbyville Police Department, Shelby County Sheriff's Office, Shelbyville Fire/EMS and the Shelby County Coroner's Office.

The investigation into the incident is continuing by Kentucky State Police Post 12 Investigators.
