One Dead, Two Injured In Letcher County Collision

(Neon, KY) - On Sunday, March 2, 2014, at approximately 1:16 a.m., Kentucky State Police Post 13, in Hazard received a call advising of a motor vehicle collision in the Neon community of Letcher County. KSP troopers, along with Neon EMS, responded to the scene, and discovered a single vehicle overturned off of the roadway.

Initial investigation determined that a 1994 Ford F-250 pick up truck was traveling west on KY Highway 805. The vehicle traveled off of the roadway and collided with a tree, before overturning. One occupant in the vehicle, Ronnie Campbell, age 27 of Burdine, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Letcher County Coroner, Marty Baker. Two other occupants were transported for medical treatment. The owner of the vehicle, Robert Walker, age 36, of Millstone, was transported to Whitesburg ARH, where he was treated and released. Forty-four year old Shawn Bevins, of Millstone, was also transported to Whitesburg ARH, then later to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Alcohol involvement is suspected in this collision, and seat belts were not utilized by any of the occupants. The driver of the vehicle has not yet been determined, as this incident remains under investigation by KSP Post 13. No charges have been filed at this time.
