Perry County Collision Results in Child's Death

(Cornettsville, KY) - Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard is investigating a collision that occurred in Cornettsville on Saturday, May 3, 2014, which has resulted in the death of a Perry County child.
KSP Trooper Eric Caldwell responded to a call of a two vehicle collision on KY 699, in the Cornettsville community of Perry County, at approximately 5:02 p.m. The initial investigation determined that a side by side ATV, driven by Eulene Caudill, pulled from a private drive, onto KY 699. The ATV crossed the path of a Toyota pickup being driven by 22 year old Jonathan Shepherd, of Slemp, resulting in the collision. Eulene Caudill and a child passenger were ejected from the ATV, resulting in injuries to both. Eulene Caudill and Jonathan Shepherd were taken to Hazard ARH with non life threatening injuries. The child passenger was flown from the scene to Holston Valley Medical Center, where he later died as a result of injuries sustained in this collision.
The child was wearing a helmet at the time of this collision, and alcohol and drug use is not considered to be a contributing factor. Toxicology results are also pending for both drivers. This collision remains under investigation by Tpr. Caldwell.
