KSP Investigating the Death of an Infant in Letcher County

(Neon, KY) - Detectives with Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard are investigating the death of a Letcher County infant. At approximately 5:16 a.m., this morning (06/06/2014), KSP Post 13 dispatchers received a call advising that an infant child was missing from a residence on Turner Drive, in the Neon community.
A KSP Trooper was dispatched to the residence on Turner Drive, where he contacted family members. After being at the residence for a short time, the trooper began speaking with family members of the missing infant, while others searched around the immediate area of the residence for the child. At approximately 6:40, the child was located behind the residence, over an embankment. The Letcher County Coroner's office was contacted, and responded to the scene, where they pronounced the child deceased.
KSP detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation into the death of the infant. This initial investigation led them to a juvenile, who has been charged with one count of Murder. The juvenile offender was transported and lodged in the Breathitt County Juvenile Detention Center. An autopsy will be preformed at the State Medical Examiner's Office. This incident remains under investigation by KSP Detective Randy Combs.
