Late Night Argument in Hazard Leaves One Dead

(Hazard, KY) - An argument between two Hazard men turned deadly late Sunday evening. Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call from Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital at approximately 11:13 p.m., advising that a stabbing victim had recently arrived at the emergency room.
KSP personnel responded to the hospital, where 21 year old Edward M. Hughes of Hazard was receiving medical attention for a stab wound to the chest. Edward Hughes was pronounced deceased at the hospital by Perry County Deputy Coroner John Collett at 12:55 a.m.
Investigators responded to Cherokee Hills Apartments in Hazard, where it was determined that Hughes and Alan Williams, age 29 of Hazard had a physical altercation in the parking lot of the apartment complex. During the fight, Alan Williams produced a knife and stabbed Edward Hughes once in the chest. Hughes was transported by a family member to the hospital, while Alan Williams remained in the apartment complex. KSP detectives located Williams and eventually placed him under arrest.
Alan Williams was charged with one count of Murder, and is currently lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail in Hazard. The victim's body was taken to the State Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy. This incident remains under investigation by KSP Detective Clayton Stamper of Post 13.
