Investigation Involving Threats of Violence at Greenup County Schools (Perpetrator has been Located)

(Ashland, Ky.) - Within 6 hours of receiving the initial report Troopers with the Kentucky State Police Post 14 have located the individual responsible for the social media threats of violence toward Greenup County schools. At this time the investigation is still ongoing, but charges are pending against an eleven year old female juvenile from Greenup County.

At this time there are no other known perpetrators involved in the threatening behavior and no additional threats have been made.

"These threats are very serious and intend to instill fear and disruption to thousands of innocent people. We will aggressively seek any who engage in this threatening behavior." Captain James Stephens, Post Commander

Investigation Involving Threats of Violence at Greenup County Schools

Date of News Release: 09/16/2014

(Ashland, KY) - On Tuesday, September 16, 2014 the Kentucky State Police began an investigation into a post made on a social media site involving the threat of violence at unknown Greenup County schools. Investigators are currently working to verify the account and identity of the individual responsible for the post.

Security will be increased at all schools while this investigation is ongoing.

Local law enforcement agencies in Greenup County and the Greenup County School District are assisting with this investigation.

The Kentucky State Police is asking the public for any information related to this investigation and the possible identity of the individual on the post. Callers may remain anonymous and can call the Kentucky State Police at 606-928-6421.
