Pursuit and Drug Charges in Calloway County

(Calloway County, KY) - On May 25, 2014 at approximately 2:17 pm, the State Police observed a red Chevy Caviler, being operated by Dennis Paton, traveling southbound on Kline Trail, at Oregon Street. Trooper Jody Cash knew that Mr. Payton had a suspended operator license and attempted to stop the vehicle. The Trooper activated his emergency equipment and Mr. Payton accelerated leading police on a high speed pursuit. The vehicle exited the roadway and slid to a stop, in a yard, near the intersection of Terry Drive. Mr. Payton exited the vehicle and was pursued on foot by Troopers Jody Cash and Michael Bennett, for approximately 100 yards, at which point he was taken into custody. Mr. Payton was charged with Operating on DUI Suspended License 1st Offense, Reckless Driving, Fleeing and Evading Police 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle), Fleeing and Evading Police 2nd Degree (On Foot), Resisting Arrest, No Insurance, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Mr. Payton is lodged in the Calloway County Jail.
