Pursuit and Arrest in Wickliffe, KY

(Wickliffe, KY) - At approximately 11:00 pm Trooper Logan Smith observed a tan Ford Taurus traveling south on US 51 just north of Wickliffe at a high rate of speed. Trooper Smith got behind the vehicle and activated his emergency equipment attempting to stop the vehicle. The vehicle proceeded to make a left onto Third Street and abruptly turned into a residence. Steven Haws exited the vehicle and went into the residence and would not comply with Trooper Smith's verbal commands. Trooper Smith and Haws got into a physical altercation and eventually subdued was taken into custody without further incident. Neither Haws nor Trooper Smith received any injuries from the incident. Haws was lodged in the Ballard County Detention Center and charged with Careless Driving, Fleeing or evading police first degree on foot, resisting arrest, and operating motor vehicle under the influence second offense. Ballard County Sheriffs department has also charged Haws with burglary second at a residence located in Wickliffe, which happened prior to this incident. Kentucky State Police was assisted on scene by Ballard County Sheriffs Department.
