KSP arrests Ballard County Man on Assault 3rd

(La Center, KY) - While on routine patrol in Ballard County, Trooper Logan Smith observed a white Volkswagen driving reckless. Trooper Smith conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle on Cunningham Road at approximately 11:43 PM on July 2, 2014.
Trooper Smith was conducting field sobriety test on the driver, Jake R. Wildharber, 20 of LaCenter, when he fled on foot into a wooded area. Trooper Smith pursued the subject into the woods as Wildharber continued to disregard orders to stop. Trooper Smith utilized his issued TASER, however; Wildharber continued to give resistance to Trooper Smith. During the confrontation Wildharber bit Trooper Smith on the hand and attempted to take the Trooper's baton off of his duty belt. Wildharber was eventually subdued. An off duty McCracken County Deputy Jailer, who overheard a call for assistance, arrived at the scene and assisted in the apprehension. Wildharber was treated and released at Lourdes Hospital for minor injuries he received during the apprehension.
Wildharber was charged with Driving Under the Influence 1st offense, Fleeing and Evading Police 1st degree, and Assault 3rd degree. Wildharber was lodged in the Ballard County Jail.
Trooper Smith was assisted on the scene by the Ballard County Sheriff's Department and Ballard County EMS. The investigation continues by Trooper Kentucky State Police.
